A freestanding bathtub is a soaking tub that stands independently on the bathroom floor without being mounted against walls or enclosed in an alcove. It connects only to a drain and water supply, giving you complete freedom in placement and bathroom layout.

Most freestanding bathtubs range from 55 to 72 inches in length, 27 to 32 inches in width, and 22 to 26 inches in height. Badeloft offers models across this full spectrum. Premium stone resin and natural stone tubs range from $3,000 to $8,000+. Alcove tubs are practical for tight spaces and shower/tub combos, but they limit design options and typically offer shallower soaking depth. Freestanding tubs provide a deeper, more comfortable bath, serve as a design centerpiece, and can be placed anywhere plumbing allows. If your bathroom has the floor space, a freestanding tub delivers a meaningfully better bathing experience.

Stone resin is widely considered the best material for a freestanding bathtub. It retains heat 30-40% longer than acrylic, resists scratches and stains without gel coats, weighs significantly less than cast iron, and maintains its finish for decades. Unlike acrylic, stone resin is solid throughout, so minor surface damage can be sanded and buffed out rather than requiring a full refinish.
