Trough sink sizes and prices

The 60 inch double trough has two basins and the 90 inch triple has three. Both are 22.2 inches deep and 6.1 inches tall, hang on the wall with the floor open underneath, and give each basin its own round center drain. Every basin measures 21.7 x 14.2 inches inside, so moving up to the 90 inch adds a third person at the sink without making the sink any deeper.

How many stations your restroom needs

Plan one person per basin, and size the sink for your busiest few minutes rather than an average hour. For the code count, the 2021 International Plumbing Code treats a trough as a group wash fixture, meaning a lavatory more than one person can use at the same time, and counts every 20 inches of its rim space as one lavatory toward the number your building needs (Section 419.1). Your plans examiner decides how a specific sink is counted, so put the count on the plumbing plan before you order.

For the busy minutes, start from how long one wash takes. The CDC tells people to scrub their hands for at least 20 seconds, and with wetting, rinsing and drying, call it about a minute at the sink.

Which trough fits your room:

Two people at a time and at least 60 inches of wall: the 60 inch double.
Three people at a time and at least 90 inches of wall: the 90 inch triple.
A wall that fits neither size, or a basin layout we don't list: a custom length in Basin Studio.
Four or more people at once: two sinks, because Basin Studio builds up to three bowls in one piece.
A counter that is already there: a WB-05 countertop trough.

Picture a gym locker room at 6:05 when a class lets out and nine people want the sink at once. With the 60 inch double, the last person in line is done after about five minutes; with the 90 inch triple, after about three.

After you order, we send a production drawing with every measurement, and nothing is cast until you approve it. Custom sinks are final sale, so the drawing is where you catch a wrong number.

Say the restroom wall runs 86 inches from the stall partition to the corner. The 90 inch triple won't fit, and the 60 inch double leaves 26 inches of bare wall. In Basin Studio you set the width to 84 inches and keep three trough bowls, and the tool won't let you build a size the bowls don't fit.

What to plan before you order

A wall mounted trough needs the wall ready before the drywall goes up. Our troughs hang on a concealed wall bracket and have no faucet holes, so the backing for the bracket and the valves for the wall faucets both go in during framing.

Put backing for the sink bracket in the wall before it is closed. Our guide to installing a wall mounted sink walks through the bracket steps.
Choose one wall-mounted faucet per basin and set each rough-in so the water lands near the center drain.
If customers use the restroom, plan tempered water. The same code requires lavatories and group wash fixtures in public toilet facilities for customers, patrons and visitors to deliver tempered water through a temperature-limiting device that meets ASSE 1070 (Section 419.5). If only staff use the room, ask your plumbing inspector what applies.
Order before the finish schedule needs the sink. Each trough is cast to order and ships in 9 to 12 weeks.

Picture a contractor building out a gym locker room who closes the wall before the sinks arrive. If the backing and the faucet valves aren't in, adding them means opening finished tile.

What makes a trough sink commercial?

A commercial trough sink is one long sink that several people can use at once in a restaurant, office, school, gym or hotel restroom. The plumbing code calls this a group wash fixture: one fixture with one or more drains and faucets that more than one person uses at the same time. Ours are cast in stone resin as a single piece, so there are no joints between basins for grime to collect in.

How many people can use a trough sink at the same time?

One person per basin and faucet: two at our 60 inch double and three at our 90 inch triple. For the code count, the 2021 International Plumbing Code counts every 20 inches of a group wash fixture's rim space as one lavatory, and your plans examiner confirms how a specific sink is counted.

Are Badeloft trough sinks ADA compliant?

We don't sell our trough sinks as ADA sinks. The 2010 ADA Standards set the rim of an accessible lavatory at 34 inches or lower, with knee and toe clearance underneath and the pipes covered. We only call our ramp sinks ADA, because their drain sits at the back edge and leaves more room for knees, so if your restroom needs an accessible station, use a ramp sink there.

What faucet works with a wall mounted trough sink?

A wall-mounted faucet, one per basin, because our 60 and 90 inch troughs come without faucet holes. In restrooms open to customers, the 2021 International Plumbing Code also requires tempered water through an ASSE 1070 temperature-limiting device, so plan that valve with your plumber.

What warranty covers a trough sink in a commercial space?
